This pennant was made for the release of Poetry Is Not a Luxury, the anthology published on May 6, 2025. The title is inspired by Audre Lorde’s essay.
Audre Lorde's "Poetry Is Not a Luxury" argues poetry is a vital tool for survival and change, especially for marginalized women, by giving voice to the "nameless," distilling experience into language, and moving us from feeling to tangible action, not sterile wordplay. Seeing poetry as essential for processing trauma, claiming identity, and bridging the gap between emotion and intellectual understanding, validating lived experiences beyond colonial epistemologies.
This collection gathers voices that treat poetry not as ornament, but as a necessary way of thinking, remembering, and surviving.
Featuring poetry by Nikki Giovanni, Rita Dove, Saeed Jones, Ada Limón, Jos Charles, Ross Gay, Victoria Chang, C.D. Wright, Eileen Myles and many more.
